Favorite Quotes

One of the things about my second book, Designing Your Own Destiny, is that I used movie quotes at the start of every chapter.   Most people use Gandhi or John F. Kennedy quotes to inspire people, which is totally fine.  I preferred to use ones from films due to my background in doing stunts for small independent films.

In my book I also had a section at the end of the book called Favorite Quotes Not Used Earlier in the Book.  One of my favorite quotes was in that section.

The quote was only one word.  Yes, a quote that is only one single word.

The character that said the quote was also only one word.  To make it more unique the name was only one syllable.

The film itself was also only one word and one syllable.

Thus, the entire quote with name and movie was only three words.  This has got to be the shortest quote around.

Dug from Up

And the impact of that quote says so much.

The quote is …

“Squirrel!”  — Dug — Up

So Much Meaning From A One Word Quote

Why does this mean so much to me?  I use this all the time when I am speaking to a group of entrepreneurs.

It means that you can be easily distracted by the new shiny object, or in the case of Dug the new squirrel that just crossed his peripheral.

I’m also guilty of this myself.

I am busily working on a new website in WordPress and then I hear about this new plugin.  I will sometimes spend hours, if not days, on this new plugin.  Many times it will lead me to other plugins that may be better.

When I could have just completed the original task on hand.

This can also be seen by the Inbox on your desk keeps getting larger and larger because you never finish the original task.

A Solution

A simple solution is to not allow this to happen.  If you see that new distraction write it down on your tomorrow’s To Do List.  This way you can finish your task at hand.

The new shiny object or squirrel will still be there tomorrow or when you are done with your current assignment.

One thing I do is have a whiteboard dedicated to tasks at hand.  I love it when I put a checkmark next to one of the items on that board. I am constantly adding to the board so it is okay to defer that distraction to another time.

Calendar

When I am speaking about time management I often show people a simple but very effective task that I do.

I use Google Calendar on my cell phone because it is universal on all of my platforms including Calendly (a calendar site where you can have others make appointments with you) and MeetUp (a site where people get together who have similar interests).

The app or site does allow for color coordination too.  This way you can schedule appointments based on different criteria.  For example, I am also a REALTOR.  All real estate appointments (showing homes, writing real estate blogs, attending real estate events) are colored dark green. My personal appointments are light blue.  The coaching events are purple.  I use light brown for exercise and yoga events.

I like doing the color coordination because I know which hat I will be putting on at that appointment.   If I am attending something to do with coaching I know not to be thinking or acting like it is real estate related.  The same is true at personal appointments.

The reason this is so important so that you can be focused with the right mindset and be at your best.

Mindsets

The Winner's Code - Secrets of the Winner's MindsetSpeaking about mindsets.  I do have a new book coming out in March 2019.  It is called The Winner’s Code: Secrets of the Winner’s Mindset.  I am doing pre-orders of the book and if you were to get yours today, not only am I selling it at my speaking event prices (normally $24.95 but now at $19.99)  I will also include my 7 Steps in Attaining Any Goal workbook (normally for sale at $9.95) for free.

Once the book is released you will be shipped a copy directly from Amazon.  Shipping and handling is on me.

The Winner’s Code is all about having a winner’s mindset.  I go into the 8 mindsets we have and how you are able to go from one of the less productive mindsets down into the ultimate one which is the winner’s mindset.  The winner’s mindset is all about how to create the ultimate “win/win” scenario.

Just order both products and use “twc” for a coupon code and you will then have it.
